JAMIE CULLUM: THE PURSUIT

Story Image

UNMARKED: A range of styles and tastes

Friday November 6,2009

By Robert Spellman

CULLUM'S fifth solo album bristles with a range of styles and tastes but he refuses to airbrush the joins.

The set also sees Jamie’s songwriting dominate, most successfully with I’m All Over It Now and Elton John-style stomp along and pleading Love Ain’t Gonna Let You Down.

He even survives hip-hop foray We Run Things relatively unmarked. There are some nice covers too, including Cole Porter’s Just One Of Those Things.

(Decca)

VERDICT  3/5
